A Wall Mount Faucet is the most common faucet used in a shower and is also a common faucet for the kitchen. They are popular choice as they are stylish, great for saving space and a fantastic design choice. They have a very clean finish and look great above any sink.

They have a long spout which makes them suitable for freestanding and above-the-counter sinks.  They require a separate wall mounted valve and a drain. When designing the space for the faucet, ensure that you have allowd enough space between the sink and the spout. There are three different types of Wall Mount Faucet:

  • Single Faucet:  Has a single lever which controls the temperature and flow of the water.
  • Two Handle/Dual Handle Faucet: These usually have a traditional compression valve and one handle controls the hot water and the other handle controls the cold water.
  • Pull-Out Faucet: Mainly used as a kitchen faucet, the head has pivoting joints and can be pulled out for extra length and flexibility such as filling up pots and washing hair over the basin.

The type of valve mechanism that you choose for the faucet is an important factor for its functionality and reliability. The types of mechanisms available are:

  • Compression Valve:
  • Ball Mechanism
  • Cartridge Mechanism
  • Disc Mechanism

The most reliable valve mechanism is the disc mechanism, followed closely by the cartridge valve.

Replacing a Wall Mount Faucet is relatively easy DIY project or alternatively you can hire plumbing contractors to complete the job.  Usually the pipes are covered over with tiles once the pipes have been connected. To install the Wall Mount Faucet you will need:

  • Your chosen faucet
  • The faucet handles
  • Wrench
  • Drill

If you need to move where the pipes and taps attach it is advisable that you have a plumber do this.  Once the pipes are in place the steps to take are:

1)     Determine how high the faucet needs to be and mark the area. Aim for a one inch gap between the bottom of the faucet and the top of the sink to minimize splashing.

2)    Drill a hole in the wall for the spout.

3)    Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the positioning of the washers and attachment of any other hardware.

4)    Attach the spout to the wall plate.

5)    Position the washers, attach the wall plate and tighten the bolts using the wrench.

6)    Attach the faucet handles and the hot and cold taps.

7)    Tighten the handles with your hand in a clockwise motion.

8)    Your faucet is ready to use!
