Top 4 Rug Cleaning Tips

Replacing carpet and rugs can be very expensive, but regular Rug Cleaning and maintenance can make your rugs and carpets look vibrant and new for years.  Taking care of your rugs is important unless you plan on replacing them regularly.  It’s a very good idea to have professional Rug Cleaning done twice a year, but if you take care of your rugs all year round you may be able to get away with just a once per year professional cleaning.  Here are some tips from home maintenance experts to help you keep your rugs in great condition:

Treat Stains Immediately

Once a stain occurs it will immediately begin to set. The sooner you can get the stain off the carpet the lower the chance that you’ll permanently damage your carpet.  The best way to remove a stain is to pat at the stain with a paper towel or rug. Never rub a stain because you will just rub the stain deeper into the carpet. If the stain is a liquid like soda, wine, or juice leave a damp rag on the stain overnight and you’ll notice that most of the stain will soak into the rag instead of into the carpet.

Use Hydrogen Peroxide On Pet Stains

Pet stains can be one of the toughest parts about Rug Cleaning. To get rid of pet stains easily without leaving any pet smell behind mix a solution of Hydrogen Peroxide, water, and lemon juice. Spray it on the pet stain and dab the carpet with a rag. Let it dry fully and there should be no sign of the pet stain. You can use the peroxide solution on your carpet once a month to help kill any mold or mildew that may be growing in the carpet if your carpet has gotten wet or if you live in a wet or humid area.

Buy A High Quality Rug Cleaning Machine

You can buy home cleaning machines that are almost as good as professional Rug Cleaning tools. If you really want to keep your carpets and rugs looking great all the time invest in a high quality machine and use it every month or so on high traffic areas or areas prone to getting stained, like the living room carpet. While a good home rug cleaner won’t replace professional Rug Cleaning it will help you keep your rugs in great condition and will help them last for a long time.
